You will be spoilt
for choice when selecting a place to stay in KL. Your selection
is as simple as knowing your preferred location, budget, hotel
brand or length of stay. It is always best to secure your
accommodation well in advance, especially during public and
school holidays here in Malaysia. The rates offered vary from
hotel to hotel and depends on what is bundled into the price
of the accommodation. Hotels generally offer varying rates
in these circumstances - a rack-rate room package (consisting
of room and buffet breakfast), or special rates for walk-in
guest, for on-line booking or for room-only. Some hotels also
throw in other perks like free or subsidised shuttle service
to and from the airport, major shopping areas or the city’s
tourist attractions.

Hotels
– From Luxury to Budget
You will be able to find international 5 star hotels located
within the city centre, with some home grown luxury hotels,
very close to the public transport system. Almost all the
hotels are located near areas of shopping, dining and entertainment.
Those who are on
a budget, fret not, for KL holds the record having the biggest
number of budget accommodation in the country. Unlike its
‘big’ sisters, budget lodging is clustered at
Tengkat Tong Shin – the back-lane of Jalan Bukit Bintang,
Chinatown and the Chow Kit – Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman
area and Jalan Raja Laut – Chow Kit area. KL’s
budget hotels offer clean and comfortable guest rooms with
basic facilities like private or common bath, air-conditioning
or fan and security, among others. The Malaysian Budget Hotel
Association site has useful info: www.budgethotel.org.my
Serviced
Suites or Apartments
If the hotel room is not enough
space for you or you need a longer term stay, there are numerous
serviced suites and apartments located within the city and
is the preferred choice for long staying guests. These suites
or apartments offer a home-away-from-home living, and come
fully furnished, offering from studio to two, three and four
bedroom suites or apartments, which usually come with built-in
kitchenette (heavy cooking is however, usually not allowed).
There is a fair mix of local and international serviced suites
or apartments found in KL.
Dormitories
If you don’t mind sharing with strangers, dormitories
are the cheapest option. These can be usually found in various
budget and youth hostels.
